We feel guilty . . . Last year Strawberry Shorts received over 400 entries. All were watched by the selection panel. Sometimes a room full of people but at other times by very few and only the final 19 by a proper audience. Some of these films were superb, crafted gems of short film making, but others, glorious in their badness.
However, good or bad almost all represent hard work, time and money. Lets face it, just to send us a DVD within the UK costs plenty so going on the stamps fixed to the envelope they arrive in, a DVD from the back end of nowhere must be costing a fortune. So however bad they are they almost all require a certain amount of cost and creativity and certainly represent a lot of hopes and dreams.
So what can we do to assuage our guilt? We can do the one thing all film makers crave, we can seek them an audience. And remember; In our experience even some of the worst, can, in their own peculiar way offer huge laughs, and be great entertainment. And if your a film maker, be a superb lesson in how not to do it. And the best… They will knock your socks off.
